Lo que comenzó hace década y media como un esfuerzo independiente es hoy el festival de poesía gratuito más grande de los Estados Unidos. Para esta edición de 2026, el encuentro nos propone una sugerente consigna: «A Modern Odyssey» (Una odisea moderna). A través de este lema, el festival invita a creadores y lectores a concebir la poesía no como un ejercicio estático, sino como ese viaje de retorno a casa —nuestra Ítaca particular— en medio de los ruidosos tránsitos de la contemporaneidad.

On Saturday, July 18, and Sunday, July 19, the iconic Victorian houses and centuries-old trees of Nolan Park on Governors Island will become the epicenter of the spoken word with the opening of the 15th New York City Poetry Festival.
What began a decade and a half ago as an independent effort is today the largest free poetry festival in the United States. For this 2026 edition, the encounter presents us with an evocative theme: «A Modern Odyssey.» Through this motto, the festival invites creators and readers to conceive poetry not as a static exercise, but as that journey back home—our own particular Ithaca—amidst the noisy transits of contemporary life.
