El reconocido fotógrafo británico Richard Boll estará presentando entre el 4 y el 13 de octubre, una impactante exposición fotográfica titulada “Expression”, en la que reúne una serie de retratos de destacados artistas contemporáneos como Rana Begum, Cornelia Parker, Gavin Turk y Stig Evans, entre otros. La muestra se llevará a cabo en la galería Regency Town House en Brighton, Inglaterra, como parte de los eventos a realizarse en el marco de Photo Fringe.
Entre las obras expuestas se encuentra Full Spectrum, una pieza de Stig Evans, que forma parte de un proyecto en curso iniciado en 2022. La obra consiste en 267 botellas antiguas llenas de pigmentos históricos y modernos, inspirada en un sistema de colores desarrollado en la década de 1930 por el National Bureau of Standards y el Inter-Society Colour Council. Este sistema fue creado para darle nombre a los colores, usando 12 términos básicos y algunos modificadores. Según Evans, esto añade un toque poético al proceso, ya que dicho sistema buscaba ser universal, al servir tanto a las ciencias, las artes y la industria, y por lo tanto ser accesible para todos. Para su proyecto Evans, utilizó una estética predigital, lo que complementa a la perfección las fotografías analógicas de Boll, al permitir crear una simbiosis entre ambos enfoques.
Originalmente, se había pensado en fotografiar la obra de Evans en blanco y negro para luego colorearla a mano, una técnica que el artista había comenzado a explorar con algunas de las botellas de pigmento. Sin embargo, decidió dejar la huella de una serie de trazos a lápiz, técnica con la cual ha venido trabajando durante varios años. Evans logró reunir 21,915 trazos —uno por cada día de su vida—, que no solo representan el paso del tiempo, sino también la transformación del espacio con ese paso.
La exposicion se distingue por las colaboraciones entre Boll y otros artistas, como es el escultor y pintor Bruce McLean, quien intervino una de las fotografías con pintura, y Ann Christopher, que introdujo técnicas de collage en otra de las imágenes. Finalmente, destacan los retratos performativos de Gavin Turk y Adam Chodzko, que añaden capas de creatividad y expresión a la narrativa visual de la exposición.
En la actualidad, las colaboraciones entre artistas son más que una simple unión de talentos; representan una fusión de ideas, enfoques y técnicas que enriquecen la experiencia creativa.
